The cinematographer of "Gladiator 2," John Mathieson, criticized Ridley Scott for his laziness and impatience. He shared this in the DocFix podcast.
The cinematographer mentioned that the iconic filmmaker, who recently released a sequel to the legendary "Gladiator," has started using multiple cameras during filming instead of just one as he did before. Additionally, Scott allegedly pays less attention to detail, which negatively affects the quality of the films.
“He is impatient and tries to get the most out of every shot. This is detrimental to cinematography because lighting can only be set from one angle. Previously, depth of field was an important aspect of his films. But now he just wants to finish everything faster,” Mathieson expressed.
The cinematographer added that Ridley does not insist on removing filming equipment from the shot, and any extraneous details are simply "fixed" in post-production.
It was previously reported that Joaquin Phoenix nearly disrupted the filming of "Gladiator." This was revealed by the film's director, Ridley Scott, in an interview.
