Agent Gleb Chistyakov, representing the interests of Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin, responded to a question from "SE" regarding the player's health status.
The 39-year-old Russian sustained an injury on November 19 during an NHL regular season game against the Utah team (6:2) due to a collision with forward Jack McBain. Ovechkin is expected to be sidelined for 4 to 6 weeks due to a fracture of the left fibula.
“Alexander is feeling okay. He wants to return sooner. However, the decision will ultimately be made by the doctors. Sasha is eager to get back in the game. Will he be back on the ice this year? I don’t know. I’ll reiterate, that will be the doctors’ decision. It’s still too early to predict. Support from Russia? Everyone is talking about it; thank you for your concern,” Chistyakov told "SE".
This season, the forward has recorded 25 points (15+10) in 18 games. Overall, he has scored 868 goals in 1,444 NHL games. He needs 26 more goals to match Wayne Gretzky's scoring record.
