Cheboksary will not host the Russian Weightlifting Cup due to financial difficulties.

Dmitry Vasilenko, the President of the Russian Weightlifting Federation (FTAR), announced that Chuvashia has declined to host the Russian Weightlifting Cup in 2025.

The President of the Russian Weightlifting Federation (FTAR), Dmitry Vasilenko, announced that Chuvashia has declined to host the 2025 Russian Weightlifting Cup.

“Chuvashia has refused to hold the Russian Weightlifting Cup, citing a challenging financial situation and a lack of human resources. The fact that Yekaterinburg has agreed to take this on is a significant support for us, as there is not much time left before the Russian Cup, and many regions have already finalized their budgets. We are currently discussing with the local sports ministry and the regional federation the venue for the tournament. Yekaterinburg is one of the most rapidly developing cities in the country, and it is strategically important for us to conduct our competitions there,” Vasilenko told TASS.

According to the head of FTAR, Yekaterinburg (then Sverdlovsk) hosted the national cup in 1976, and the Russian championship took place in the city in June 1945. Since then, no major weightlifting competitions have been held in Yekaterinburg in modern Russian history.

FTAR intended to hold the Russian Weightlifting Cup in Cheboksary from January 27 to February 3, 2025.
