Chesnokov believes that Russian tennis players could go far in the Davis Cup.

1995 Davis Cup finalist Andrei Chesnokov expressed his belief that Russian tennis players could achieve a high ranking in the Davis Cup.

1995 Davis Cup finalist Andrei Chesnokov expressed his views on how Russian tennis players could have secured a high position in the Davis Cup.

“I am confident that our team would have ranked high, even considering the less successful performances of our leaders. We have two players in the top 10 of the world rankings, and currently, there are no other countries with such representation. Additionally, Karen Khachanov finished the season strongly. We would have been among the contenders for the title, so it is very disappointing that we are not participating,” Chesnokov told TASS.

In March 2022, the International Tennis Federation suspended the membership of the tennis federations of Russia and Belarus and canceled tournaments in these countries. On March 14, it confirmed the exclusion of the teams from participating in team competitions—the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup. The Russian team is a three-time Davis Cup champion (2002, 2006, 2021).
