The captain of the Italian Davis Cup team, Filippo Volandri, stated that the disqualification of ATP world ranking leader Jannik Sinner for violating anti-doping rules would be a tremendous injustice in history.
“I don’t even want to think about the potential disqualification of Sinner, given his integrity and the irrefutable evidence he provided. If there is anyone with broad shoulders, it’s Jannik. A disqualification would be the greatest injustice in history,” Volandri was quoted by the Tennis365 portal.
In August, it was reported that Sinner tested positive for the anabolic steroid clostebol twice in the spring. The 23-year-old athlete was acquitted in the anti-doping case. He proved that the substance entered his body after a massage that his physiotherapist mistakenly performed without gloves.
Meanwhile, WADA is aiming to achieve a disqualification for the athlete ranging from one to two years. The organization has filed an appeal with CAS against the decision to acquit the athlete.
