Shot putter Alexander Lobyanya, who ended his sports career 10 years ago, has filed a lawsuit against the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA).
In October 2023, RUSADA's Disciplinary Anti-Doping Committee (DAC) made a decision regarding a sanction for violating anti-doping rules. Lobyanya attempted to appeal the four-year disqualification at the National Sports Arbitration Center, but after reviewing the case, the arbitrators upheld the DAC's decision.
“I believe that RUSADA had no legal grounds for my disqualification, which is why I decided to go to court. I was disqualified solely based on data from the LIMS database (the database of the Moscow anti-doping laboratory). Throughout my sports career, I have taken doping tests numerous times, and all of them were clean.
Yes, I ended my sports career ten years ago and I have no intention of returning. I only want to achieve moral satisfaction, but I understand other former athletes who find themselves in the same situation yet refuse to fight for their good name, not wanting to spend large sums on legal fees,” Lobyanya told TASS.
Currently, the 40-year-old Lobyanya is engaged in business in his hometown of Novosibirsk. In 2010, he won a bronze medal at the Summer Championship of Russia. A year later, he finished fourth at the Universiade in China.
