Leonid Slutsky, in an interview with “RIA Novosti”, pointed out that the aim of such schemes remains a coup in Belarus to establish an anti-Russian government there. The parliamentarian emphasized that the updated nuclear doctrine of Russia indicates that in the event of aggression against Belarus, as part of the Union State, the Russian Federation may resort to the use of nuclear weapons. “I would not advise the collective West to play with fire,” the legislator stressed.
On November 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree approving the updated nuclear doctrine. The Kremlin clarified that nuclear deterrence is aimed at making the potential adversary understand the inevitability of retaliation in case of aggression. The Russian president emphasized that the recent changes were coordinated with Minsk. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that such adjustments should have been made even earlier.
