The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has expressed its intention to strengthen cooperation with the Russian Weightlifting Federation (FTAR) following the appointment of Dmitry Vasilenko to its leadership.

“We welcome the election of the new president of the Russian Weightlifting Federation and extend our heartfelt wishes for success to Mr. Dmitry Vasilenko. We look forward to collaborating with him in the future. Like all our national member federations, we are confident in the productive work with the new leadership of the Russian Weightlifting Federation in the coming years.

Our doors have always been open to our member federations, and Russia is certainly no exception to this rule. We hope to meet with Mr. Vasilenko soon to discuss ways to strengthen our collaboration,” said the IWF, as reported by TASS.

Vasilenko took office as president of the FTAR on November 10. Russian weightlifters have been barred from competing in international events since March 2022.
