The future of the Russian youth national team, which can include players born after December 31, 2003, for the 2025/27 cycle, remains unclear.
Qualifying matches will commence in March 2025. Sixteen teams will compete in the European Championship in June-July 2027. The results will determine the participants for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The draw for the qualifying tournament will take place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon on January 30, 2025, which is just two months away. There is a high likelihood that Russia will not be allowed to participate. If that happens, we will miss yet another Euro among the youth teams, and consequently, another Olympic Games.
The fate of the U17 and U19 youth teams is also uncertain. Currently, our teams are not participating in the qualifying tournaments for two Euro-2025 events, which we will definitely miss. This concerns teams whose players were born after December 31, 2007, and December 31, 2005.
There are no prospects for two other youth teams that could participate in the next cycle—at least in the qualifying tournaments for two Euro-2026 events. This pertains to teams whose players were born after December 31, 2008, and December 31, 2006.
The issue is that the draws for the qualifying tournaments are scheduled for December 5 of this year. There have been no updates regarding Russia's participation in them.
