The 35-year-old Ivanov was suspended from competitions for one and a half years. His disqualification period ended on August 6, 2023. Sanctions were imposed on the athlete after reviewing the database of the Moscow anti-doping laboratory. According to the International Testing Agency, the weightlifter violated anti-doping regulations on February 9, 2012.

The results that the weightlifter achieved from February 7, 2012, to August 6, 2023, have been annulled. Ivanov competed in the weight category up to 94 kg and lost his victory at the 2013 World Championship in Wrocław, Poland.

In Ivanov's sporting career, he has a gold medal from the World Championship he won in 2010. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he earned a silver medal, but four years later, he was stripped of it following a decision by the International Olympic Committee after a re-examination of his doping sample revealed a banned substance.
