State Duma Deputy Dmitry Svishchev commented on the broken left fibula of Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin.
“Millions of fans around the world, in Russia and the USA, are upset that Ovechkin has sustained a serious injury. However, there’s no need to despair. Of course, many wanted Alexander to break Gretzky's record this year. Especially since he was on a roll, scoring in every game like in his prime. But the most important thing is his health, and we hope he recovers quickly. I’m confident that the record won’t go anywhere. We wish him good health!” — said Svishchev to RB Sport.
The 39-year-old Russian was injured on November 19 during an NHL regular-season game against the Utah team (6:2) after colliding with forward Jack McBain. The Washington press service announced that Ovechkin is sidelined for 4 to 6 weeks due to a broken left fibula.
This season, the forward has recorded 25 points (15+10) in 18 games. In total, he has scored 868 goals in 1,444 NHL games. He needs 26 more goals to tie Wayne Gretzky's scoring record.
