Terminally ill producer Harvey Weinstein, currently incarcerated, has filed a lawsuit against the city of New York and its healthcare system. This was reported by the Associated Press.
The convicted producer's lawsuit seeks $5 million in damages for physical and psychological harm. Weinstein's attorneys claim that their client was subjected to unsanitary conditions in Rikers Island prison and received inadequate medical care.
Additionally, the publication noted low temperatures in the facility and a lack of clean clothing. Lawyer Imran Ansari, in his statement, compared the New York prison to a "GULAG."
“When I visited him last time, I found bloodstains on his clothing — possibly from IV drips, I don’t know. His robe hadn’t been washed for several weeks! He wasn’t even provided with clean underwear,” he expressed indignation.
It was previously reported that Weinstein has been diagnosed with a rare form of bone marrow cancer — chronic myeloid leukemia. Due to this and other chronic illnesses, the producer was hospitalized in July and April 2024.
